Parents as Teachers

Give your child the best possible start in life you can.

  • Parents are a child's first and most important teacher.  The home is the child's first school house.  A child will learn more during the early years than at any other time in life.  How a child grows and learns during these years, beginning at birth, will affect his or her later development and success in school.
  • The Parents as Teachers program is designed to offer free developmental information and support to all parents of infants and young children to age five.  The goal of the program is to help the parents give their child the best possible start in life.  Parents as Teachers uses four ways to partner with parents to help each child reach his potential.

1) The personal visit.

2) Group meetings.

3) Screenings

4) Resource Networks

  • Parents as Teachers is a voluntary and flexible program that provides practical, effective help for all Missouri families with children.

Parents as Teachers has been found to be highly effective.  An independent evaluation showed that participating children were significantly more advanced in language development than other three year olds, had made greater strides in problem solving and other intellectual skills, and were farther along in social development than their peers.

Do you know of a child who might benefit from this wonderful program?  If so please call or email one of our Parent Educators listed below.
